Make Waves With Gulf Shores City Schools

The Gulf Shores City Schools serve approximately 2,700 students in one elementary school (Grades PreK-5), one middle school (Grades 6-8), one high school (Grades 9-12) and one virtual academy (Grades K-12). It is located on Alabama's Gulf Coast in the southernmost tip of Baldwin County. With an academically diverse student body, the district sets high expectations and provides opportunities for all students and faculty to reach their full potential.

Our schools are driven to meet the needs of our students today and in the future by offering relevant and engaging instruction that prepares students, not only for career and college readiness but for lifelong success. We are committed to serving the needs of the whole child, which means focusing on interests, dreams and the developmental milestones of our students, from early childhood through graduation. Residents share a commitment to education as well as the arts, sports, and civic responsibility.

Core Values

  1. Promoting rigorous, comprehensive, and relevant curriculum that prepares students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners.

  2. Developing self-reliance by incorporating the student’s physical, mental, emotional and social well-being into the teaching/learning environment.

  3. Fostering inclusive, engaging members of society, and encouraging critical and creative thinking.

  4. Recruiting and emboldening the best and the brightest faculty and staff and rewarding innovation and collaboration.

  5. Instilling a sense of pride in our schools by engaging the Gulf Shores community in the educational experience.

Gulf Shores City Schools (GSCS) Athletics exists to develop champions in the classroom, in competition, and in character. As the Dolphins, our student-athletes compete across a wide range of sports supported by committed coaches, the Dolphin Athletic Club, and a community that shows up. GSCS teams train and compete at outstanding venues, including the Gulf Shores Sportsplex, home to baseball, softball, football, soccer, track and field, and more. Our programs emphasize discipline, teamwork, and leadership that carry well beyond graduation.

Recent years have marked a historic rise for Dolphin athletics. Gulf Shores High School captured its first AHSAA football state championship in 2023, finishing an undefeated season under Head Coach Mark Hudspeth. In 2024, Boys’ Soccer delivered the program’s first AHSAA state title. Our city also regularly hosts major state track and field championships at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium, underscoring Gulf Shores’ reputation as a premier venue for scholastic sport.

Looking ahead, the new Gulf Shores High School, slated to open in 2026, will elevate training and performance with an 18,000-square-foot field house, athletic performance center, and a covered 110-yard practice field connected to the complex. Together with year-round partnerships through the City’s Recreation Division and strong K-12 participation, GSCS Athletics is purpose-built to help students “Make Waves” in every arena.
